I’ve been visiting and testing quite a few new transport products lately. Then on the weekends, I head out on my full suspension mountain bike. MR: I ride an ebike everywhere, switching it up between our RadWagon, RadRover and RadRunner. All new innovations will have an even higher value proposition to help accelerate the adoption of ebikes across individual and commercial customers. MR: We see ebikes being as commonplace as cell phones. We apply a value innovation approach to our design process - meaning we find ways to add value in new places while tweaking existing features based on years of experience and direct rider feedback. NB: How do you see the future for ebikes, and what do you have in the pipeline? Compared to other exploratory options, like drones and autonomous vehicles, our solution is scalable, proven and exists today. Sustainability is really important to me and our employees we believe ebikes are the best solution to some of the world’s toughest logistical and environmental challenges. For example, we have several product team members who are responsible for finding partially or entirely sustainable materials to replace packaging or ebike parts without sacrificing safety or durability. MR: Yes, as we have grown, we are able to allocate more resources to sustainability initiatives across our offices and supply chain. NB: In terms of sustainability, do you have specific initiatives in process to reduce production waste and explore eco materials? Mike Radenbaugh would like to see more people take on ebikes with RadRunner Rad Power Bikes In Europe, we are also pioneering the L1e-A category of electric bikes that have more power than standard pedelecs (a type of low-powered e-bike), diversifying our line-up in Europe with two 750W ebikes, a 1500W etrike and now the 250W RadRunner. We have built an entire ecosystem of product and support at an industry-leading price point, blending ecommerce, brick-and-mortar and business-to-business functions to lead the adoption of ebikes and industry. MR: We are one of the few and the first pure direct-to-consumer ebike brands. With the ebike market ever-expanding, how do you see the range competing in today’s global market? MR: Yes, I knew that in order to make ebikes popular, I had to build something different and distinct from the current, stale electric bikes. NB: It’s interesting that you decided to launch the brand with the unusual RadRover electric fat tire bike model. its passenger package and center console accessories are sold separately for $99 USD each. The deck can carry cargo accessories or convert into scooter-style seating Rad Power Bikes The radrunner is available to purchase in the us for $1,299 USD from sept 11 and in canada and europe $1,799 CAD and €1.199 EUR in late-september. ‘the radrunner is the culmination of everything we’ve done and stand for, and is a stepping stone to even more radical designs in the future.’ our approach to product development is to find ways to add value in new places while tweaking existing features based on years of experience and direct rider feedback,’ said radenbaugh. ‘we don’t just build ebikes, we build problem-solvers. other elements include upright handlebars, dual-leg kickstand, rigid fork, and led control readout. The radrunner includes a powerful geared hub motor (750w in US, 500w in canada, and 250w in europe), long-range 48v 14 ah lithium-ion battery for 25-45 miles of range per charge, and integrated headlight, taillight, and brakelight. a single-speed drivetrain is the centerpiece of the radrunner’s simplicity letting riders quickly get up to speed with the geared hub motor, twist-grip, on-demand power, and four levels of pedal assistance. Radenbaugh said he wanted to create a bike with fewer moving pieces. meanwhile, 20-inch by 3.3-inch wide multi-terrain tires provide a stable ride. the deck can be converted into scooter-style seating with a driver seat and ‘passenger package’, which includes a rear seat, folding foot pegs, and protective wheel skirt. The rad runner offers multiple riding modes and a load capacity of 300 pounds, including 120 pounds on the extended rear deck. ‘we built the radrunner to be effective and fun at a price point that will introduce more people to ebikes, likely for the first time.’ we know that people want an easier, faster, and greener way to get around, but cost and practicality are their biggest roadblocks,’ said mike radenbaugh, founder and CEO of rad power bikes. ‘sitting in the car is frustrating, bad for your health and bad for the environment. powered by a 750w motor, the radrunner is packed with useful features that make it part two-seater moped and part electric cargo bike. Rad power bikes has announced a new electric bike that can carry up to 300 pounds with a rear deck that can carry another person or some heavy cargo.
